Lately, the most popular in terms of portability in the computer arena are the netbooks. This device is literally similar to laptops which offer the same convenience and functionality. But there are still some advantages that you can get in using the usual laptop computer. So if you are now in the state of confusion of which one to buy, a netbook or a laptop, read on so I can give you some highlights.

Making a decision of which one to purchase is a bit challenging, I tell you. However, your preference depends on your own needs. Here are some important key features of each type of device that you can compare so you can arrive to a better decision.

1. Size

There is a greater advantage of having more convenience in carrying a computer device. Laptops are considered portable but you have to put it in a special carrying bag if you want to carry it along. Laptop sizes start at 14” and you can actually feel its weight when you carry it. On the other hand, netbooks sizes start at 7 inches which is considered really small. You can easily slip it into a carrying pouch or into your backpack with lesser weight.

2. Processors and Performance

Laptops perform powerfully almost similar to the sturdy desk top models. Laptops are designed specifically to tackle multitasking. Most of the latest laptop models are capable of performing multitasking through the use of 2GB of RAM and even higher. Netbooks, on the other hand, utilize only 1GB of RAM and may encounter some delay during when performing multitasking. However, if your work does not require complicated tasks, you may prefer to use the netbook.

Moreover, netbooks can run using up to Windows XP or Linux only while laptops have the privilege to use any operating system. Though the operating system does not alter the usability of the device, for some individuals the operating system matters.

3. Multimedia Capabilities

While you can comfortably surf the net using a netbook, it cannot perform well in playing games or viewing videos. Netbooks are capable only of handling some basic graphics and multimedia capabilities because of its low RAM. You will experience lagging performance especially if your netbook is executing other programs simultaneously.

Most laptops run with higher RAM. It can well manage some multimedia tasks like playing games, downloading and playing videos, even if there are other programs running. Apart from this capability, almost all laptop models come with a DVD drive which is very useful in reading CDs and DVDs or burning any type of data into your CDs.

4. Portable Connectivity

Netbooks are intended for users who are always on the go and need to have access online. All netbook models have integrated WiFi capability and Bluetooth connection. The latest netbook models have even an integrated 3G giving you the advantage of accessing the internet anywhere you are without the need of WiFi network.

For laptops, considering its weight, you have to exert a little effort here. If you are always moving around and always in need of a computer device, the lesser size and weight is preferable.

5. Price

The prices of netbooks range from $200 to $500 depending on its features and capabilities while the most affordable laptops cost $400. The cheaper netbook offers internet capability, creation of documents, and play low resolution games. The more expensive netbooks have higher storage, higher RAM, and offer better features. If you have a tight budget and does not need more complicated features, the netbook suits for you.

Choosing which of the two types of computer devices to purchase takes a sensible decision. You can actually choose to buy both the netbook and the laptop but if you have to choose only one because of your limited budget, you need to compare the two wisely. I hope these tips can help you decide which one to purchase.
